Thanks primarily to the support given to us by our contributors, our Knottingley website is now undoubtedly one of the most comprehensive and extensive sources of information available for any town of comparable size in the country. With thousands of pages of information and images depicting the towns origins and developments this is a notable achievement for any community supported project, but things have just got even better.
Published online for the first time in May 2000, the origins of the Knottingley website actually date back to the last millennium (and not many websites available today could claim that) We were around before many of the popular social networking websites of today had even been considered but while we cannot claim to have generated such widespread interest we do have our followers.

Family History has always played a small part in our development, being closeley connected with aspect of our local history, and so it should come as no surprise to discover that we now have a family history website to supplement the information contained on our Knottingley website. Together they provide a truly extensive source of local information and interest that will be the envy of many similar towns.

Retaining the name of Digest Family History (I like to keep things alive!) but housed at www.YorkshireAncestry.co.uk our new family history website is available to subscribing members only. We do not have the resources or financial support behind many of the leading websites of today so on this occasion we are asking for the support of our members to ensure that like the Knottingley website itself, this closely related site can become a long-standing source of relevant information for everyone connected with the town. From just £2.50 per month that's not a lot to ask in return for the hundreds of hours of work that have gone into the project already.

Digest Family History is comprised of a number of databases, the primary one being a family tree which contains in excess of 8,000 individuals at the present time. With the site now fully operation this will be expanded at frequent intervals. It is hoped that in time we will be able to show family connections for everyone featured on the database but this is some time in the future.

Our second database lists a selection of baptism, marriage and burial records from our private collection. Many of our marriage records contain the names of the bride and grooms father and in some instances the names of witnesses to the marriage. At the present time, due to the task of getting the website operational, only a small number of records have been included but now that we have gone live there will be a regular series of additions over coming weeks.

In addition we will be publishing a series of local history articles for our members, the first being a history of the Carter Family & Lime Grove, Knottingley. This will be followed by a history of St. Botolph's Church and a study of Local Education.

As already stated, a subscription to Digest Family History can be obtained for the equivalent of £2.50 per month when paid annually but it is also possible to pay the total sum in 3 monthly instalments. Full details of the Digest Family History website and our membership options can be found at Digest Family History.
