I have waited before writing to you in the forlorn hope that a valedictory issue of the Digest Magazine was in the pipeline when publication ceased, but alas, it is not to be.
I merely wish to express my regret at the circumstances which have resulted in the demise of the magazine and in addition to expressing the hope that the unfortunate experience will cause a minimum of distress to you and Pamela, both mentally and materially, pay tribute to your vision, skill and commitment in launching and developing the publication over a sustained period of time.
Regardless of present circumstances you can feel justly proud of your achievement in placing the history of Knottingley and District before a worldwide readership, a feat which no-one has done before or is likely to emulate. You have served the township and people with singular distinction and deserve the highest praise.
More than that, you have in the process created a permanent and enduring record of the history and mores of Knottingley and district, past and present, which will serve as an invaluable archive source for future generations. It is no exaggeration to assert that in the years ahead local historians and sociologists will commend your foresight and dedication. I state this not to flatter or console you but with profound conviction that such will be the case.
It has been a great personal pleasure to be associated with you and I hope that the end of the Digest Magazine will not be the end of our association.
Terry Spencer.
